  • Job Description

    The Fixed Assets/Construction Project Accountant position is accountable for managing construction accounting as well as accounting related to fixed assets. 

    Job Focus

    Focus is on, but not limited to the following:

    • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recordation of fixed assets
    • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system
    • Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger
    • Calculate depreciation for all fixed assets
    • Review and update the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation
    • Investigate the potential obsolescence of fixed assets
    • Conduct periodic physical counts of fixed assets
    • Develops and implements fixed asset tagging system
    • Conduct analyses related to fixed assets as requested by management
    • Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets
    • Support the preparation of annual property tax returns
    • Track company expenditures for fixed assets in comparison to the capital budget and management authorizations
    • Perform reconciliation of fixed asset subsidiary ledger balance with summary-level account in the general ledger
    • Develop, implement, and maintain construction management system, including setting up projects (jobs), budgets, job costs, cost codes, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and various construction progress reports.
    • Track the compilation of construction project costs into fixed asset accounts monitoring costs are in line with project spend and contracts
    • Manage process for proper coding of construction invoices (payment applications) and lien releases for contractor and vendor invoices
    • Review and analyze capitalization of costs
    • Maintain contract documents including records of lien releases in appropriate files Review subcontractor documents, payment terms, insurance, and bond requirements
    • Analyze and review construction status with Project/Construction Managers Monitor preliminary notices and lien releases
    • Comply with month end close schedule and finance deadlines
    • Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required

    Desired Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
    • Minimum of three (3) years of fixed asset accounting experience
    • Possess strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Strong knowledge and experience of fixed assets and General Ledger
    • Possess strong proficiency in Excel
    • Detailed knowledge of construction project contracts, lien law, and change order documents Strong ability to apply several accounting and reporting systems
    • Strong communication and analytical skills
