Job Description

The Sommelier is responsible for preparing wine and related service items for the restaurant(s).  The Sommelier will interact with the guests throughout the meal answering questions about wine, making recommendations and serving wine and champagne.  They will ensure the hotel wine stock is maintained at par levels and properly stored at all times.

Job Focus

Focus is on, but not limited to the following:

  • Must love and support their TEAM!
  • Must love and take care of guests!
  • Must say “yes” and “thank you” often!
  • Provides constant wine service to the guests during each seating
  • Ensures that wines, champagnes and related service items are properly prepared for each seating
  • Ensures hotel wine stock is maintained in accordance with hotel standards and contains appropriate vintages
  • Prepares and maintains all wine service items to hotel standards
  • Answers questions pertaining to wine vintages and makes recommendations to customers
  • Takes wine orders from customers
  • Serves wine to customers throughout their meal
  • Takes after dinner liquor orders
  • Serves after dinner liquor
  • Conducts a complete routine inventory of hotel wine stock
  • Recommends additions and deletions from wine stock as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Has at least a Level 2 Sommelier Certificate
  • Has at least five (5) years of gourmet food and beverage service experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older
  • Ability to obtain a valid Nevada Alcohol Awareness Card and Nevada Food Handler Safety Training Card
  • Has strong interpersonal, communication skills and hospitality driven attitude
  • Must be polished, professional, friendly, dynamic, and able to multitask and take initiative in a VIP driven and guest service focused environment.
  • Able to move throughout the restaurant(s) during assigned shift
  • Able to be on their feet for extended periods of time
  • Able to present themselves in a professional manner
